Montana Loophole

A Study Conducted by Flywheel Research Division.

The state of Montana is known to most as “Big Sky Country”, a sprawl of beautiful mountains and wide open skies. But to those who’ve arrived financially, Montana may best be known as a tax haven for the ultra-wealthy car enthusiast.

Montana has no sales tax, and this applies to vehicle purchases as well. For high-value vehicles like supercars, which can cost hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars, the absence of sales tax can lead to significant savings (you’re gonna need a daily Mercedes to go with that weekend Ferrari).

The great state of Montana allows the creation of a Limited Liability Company (LLC) that can own vehicles. This means that individuals can set up an LLC in Montana, have the LLC purchase the car, and register it in the state. This way, the car technically belongs to the Montana LLC and enjoys the tax benefits without the owner being a Montana resident. Owners can then legally drive these cars in other states, such as California, with Montana plates.

The Montana Loophole is perfectly legal – a tasteful way of saying “don’t tread on me” for the modern entrepreneur. In our research, we came to rediscover the beauty of the Midwest and the values of freedom our country was founded on.
